Lisa Difford - Artistic Director

Lisa is an award-winning theatre maker, actor and storyteller with a passion for enabling people to explore the world around them in engaging, accessible & meaningful ways. 

An established performer in regional theatres and at the prestigious Olivier Stage at The National, Lisa has devised performances for the National Coal Mining Museum as well for Barnsley Museums where her work contributed to their status as finalist in the 2021 Museum of the Year award. Lisa’s story films, created during COVID-19 lockdown, won the Family Friendly Museum Award for Best Film 2020 and were nominated for the Hearts for the Arts award for Best Show 2020.

In the creation of Fettle & Fable, Lisa draws upon a rich mix of storytelling tools and techniques, including acting, puppetry and the historical interpretation of characters, situations, museum artefacts and buildings to create memorable, enjoyable and rewarding experiences.

2021 has seen Lisa launch two exciting children’s theatre productions: 

Lisa has created unique and inspirational suitcase show ‘Toller’s Neighbours’ as well as devising, writing, producing, performing and creating shadow-puppets for ‘Inkonjane – The Lighting Bird’, bringing together a team of international musicians, storytellers, puppet-maker’s, directors and set designers to deliver this powerful, engaging and surprise-filled show.
